Bryan Shupe promises to address housing, education issues in First State
DELAWARE. – In Delaware’s 36th district, incumbent candidate, Bryan Shupe, and 29-year-old Rony Baltazar-Lopez ran for the State Representative seat.
It’s clear that Shupe won the race, though results are unofficial. He held a lead with 62% of the vote.
Shupe has held the seat for five years. Now, he said he’s planning to work across the aisle to tackle issues like the cost of living and literacy rates in the First State.
“There’s a lot of different levels that we can talk about in order to give people relief, and also to help with the market inflation as well,” Shupe said. “Of course, our local schools, our proficiency rates are very low here in Delaware. I think there are ways to get money into the classroom.”
Baltazar-Lopez kicked off his political career, hoping to uplift those in his community. He said being the son of two immigrants, he wanted to represent the Latino community and bring change to the education sector.
“Making sure that we have an education system that’s working for all of us, making sure that our teachers are being paid adequately, making sure that we’re addressing the behavioral mental health challenges that our students are facing, and making sure that we’re making investments with students that are multilingual, low income and students with disabilities,” Baltazar-Lopez said.
