Wor-Wic granted $137,000 for CDL training for veterans

SALISBURY, Md. – Wor-Wic Community College will be getting $137,000 in FY25 from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The money will go towards Wor-Wic’s Commercial Driver’s License training program, specifically to support CDL training for current or former service members, as well as members from typically under-served communities.

School officials said having the opportunity to get CDL training and start a career is life-changing for many people: “It’s a life altering change. I mean, you take somebody who just doesn’t have the funds to do it, but they really have the ambition and that’s their goal to do it, when somebody offers the money to them, they’re the best students that we ever had because they try hard,” said Mark Miciotto, Transportation Coordinator at Wor-Wic.

Miciotto added that the new funding will be enough to fully cover training costs for up to 16 aspiring drivers.
