Wicomico County Public Library needs helping clothing the community during the cold
Winter Worries
SALISBURY, Md. – The winter months are here which means many will be in need of a wool coat, and the library is trying to help citizens not worry so much.
Cristy Richardson is the manager of the Community Support Center at the Wicomico County Public Library. She says every day, multiple times a day, people ask for clothing items. Sadly, many sleep outside until the cold weather shelters open.
Richardson says city regulations make it hard for people to hold on to things, and they’re currently trying to collect men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing. She says during this time of year they run into a dry spell, and with help from the community, the local library can put something back into their hands, free of charge.
“A lot of times when people leave their camp for the day, or they walk away from sleeping under the bridge, people will come and throw their stuff away because it’s considered like, “cleaning up”… We need blankets, sleeping bags, hot hand gloves, hats jackets, just basically anything that could keep someone warm.”
The pantry is free and open to the public during normal business hours, and community members are asked to only take what they need and leave what they can. If you are interested in donating food or clothing, feel free to stop by or call 410-749-3612 x 133.
