Wicomico County Public Library host Halloween event to encourage reading

Spooktacular Event

Salisbury, Md. – Ghosts, Goblins, and Ghouls! Although Halloween is tomorrow, many are celebrating today, including the Wicomico County Public Library! They held a Spooktacular event at WinterPlace Park.

The event had many festive activities for children and their parents. The organizer Beth Jarvis was dressed as Cat in the Hat, and they had Trunk or Treat, a Gaming Truck, community resources, a bookmobile, and a Haunted Mobile Lab.

Head of Programming and Outreach and the Wicomico Public Library Stephanie Daisey says their goal is to put the fun back in the fundamentals of reading. “Families will be able to see our bookmobile which travels around the county each month to help access to library materials., children’s books, and more, those interested in getting a library card can start the process too… The library is a part of our community, and we want to provide a safe space, for families to enjoy.”

Their haunted bookmobile allowed children to check out some books and have fun while being frightened. Hopefully, this event scared up some interest in picking up a good book.

The library wants to encourage young children to continue to read during the fall season and say if you are interested in the bookmobile, or signing up for a library card, you can go to their website to find out which stop is closest to you.
