Two men sentenced in 2021 Dover murder case

DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Department of Justice has announced the conviction and sentencing of two men responsible for shooting and killing a man in Dover in 2021.

The incident happened on May 14, 2021, at the former Lion’s Den Barber Shop in Dover. Police say the two suspects, 26-year-old Kyree Robinson and 20-year-old Jesean Coverdale, sought out the victim, Javon Jones, in different parts of the Dover area before the shooting. After finding the victim, Coverdale waited outside while Robinson walked into the barber shop, which was crowded with adults and children at the time of the shooting. Robinson walked in with his handgun drawn and almost immediately began shooting at Jones, with complete disregard for the innocent bystanders in the shop. He hit and killed Jones before the pair fled the scene.

It was determined that Robinson and Coverdale searched for the victim in retaliation for an alleged altercation that had taken place earlier.

On April 19th, Coverdale, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, was committed and sentenced as an adult to 27 years in prison, suspended after three years, and two years on intensive probation. He was convicted of second degree conspiracy and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

On September 25th, Robinson was sentenced to a total of 105 years in prison, suspended after 41 years, with three years of descending levels of probation. He was convicted of second degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and first degree reckless endangering.
