Two Delaware watermen file lawsuit against DNREC regarding offshore wind turbines
DELMARVA – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has been sued by two watermen from Delaware.
This is due to the U.S Wind Farm group planning for 22 offshore wind turbines to be built 10 miles off the coast of Ocean City.
Paul Townsend and George Merrick are the plaintiffs in the case, and they will be represented by former Delaware Attorney General Jane Brady. The litigation will be focused on a technicality, that U.S Wind did not complete an application, that would bring the transmission lines from Maryland to Delaware.
That application must be completed and approved before permits can be granted. The attorney for the waterman, Jane Brady, believes steps have been skipped in order to rush the process.
“There are certain things required to get your driver’s license, you have to show your birth certificate and other evidence of residing in Delaware, that’s a component that’s required. Well, these earning approvals that’s a component that’s required, and they aren’t there, they haven’t gotten there, they are still pending.”
