The Baltimore Ravens and United Way sponsored the Caw to Action event to help uplift communities on the Eastern Shore

SALISBURY, Md. – The Annual Caw to Action event was focused on ways to help local communities across the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

United Way partnered with local agencies to help give back. Victoria Stone, the Program Director for Diakonia, said this was all done to make sure the community gets the care it needs.

“In partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and United Way, helping the community take action to help out other agencies such as ourselves, that need to help with resources in the community.”

Community Impact Manager for United Way Martin Hutchison said the group diligently works with agencies. “A main piece of United Way, is working in our local communities through our partner agencies, and that’s what’s going on, and that’s what we’re here to support and cheer on.”

At the Recovery Resource Center, volunteers worked on beautification projects, such as planting mums, adding planters, and installing an awning. Hutchison, who is known for his work within the Salisbury community, said this group focuses on being the lifeline of help, Salisbury needs.

“Here at the recovery resource center, they reach out to the people in the recovery community and serve as a safe place for people to come to find help hope, and healing.”

At Diakonia, they repainted the walls for the male portion of the shelter, Hutchison believes, Diakonia goes along with the United Way mission. “Diakonia is similar, they reach out to the homeless community, the unsheltered community, and provide a place of refuge and food and assistance to them.”
