Tanker truck ruptures following crash in Berlin

BERLIN, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating after a tanker truck reportedly ruptured following a crash in Berlin Monday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. on eastbound Route 50 at Route 113. Troopers say the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 International tanker style truck was driving on eastbound Route 50 when it was hit from behind by a black 2011 BMW 328, causing the tank on the back of the truck to rupture.

The driver of the truck, identified as 28-year-old Deonshaye Waters, was taken to Atlantic General Hospital for precautionary measures.

The driver of the BMW, identified as 39-year-old Sandra Elliott, was taken to TidalHealth for precautionary measures. Police say she was charged with negligent driving as a result of the crash.

Route 50 was closed for roughly three hours while the incident was investigated and cleared.
