Suspect arrested in connection to Laurel restaurant robbery
LAUREL, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a Virginia man in connection to a Laurel restaurant robbery last month.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on September 8th, troopers were called to Tacos Chabelita for a reported. It was learned that an unknown man walked into the business, assaulted the victims, and forcefully stole money that employees reportedly had on a table. Before fleeing, the suspect broke windows of the business, damaged a vehicle in the parking lot, and assaulted another victim with a hammer.
Police say the victims sustained minor injuries.
Further investigation led police to identify the suspect as 24-year-old Deante Massenburg of Chesapeake, Virginia. Massenburg was arrested in New York on September 17th, and was extradited to Delaware on Wednesday.
He is currently being held at SCI on a $29,300 cash bond on second degree robbery, attempt to commit second degree robbery, second degree assault – causes injury with a weapon, first degree reckless endangering, third degree assault, offensive touching, and two counts of criminal mischief.
