Officials offer stranger danger safety tips as the school year gets into full swing

DELMARVA – The school year has begun, and ensuring kids get to school safely is a top priority. The term ‘stranger danger’ is defined as the idea or warning, that strangers can potentially be dangerous. The phrase is used toward children during their childhood.

Local law enforcement says the lower shore is generally safe but parents should still teach their kids simple things, like who they can trust. Teaching their full name and address at an early age is recommended. Ocean Pines Police Chief Tim Robinson says to be mindful at all times.

“It’s not a crime that is anything of the norm here on the lower eastern shore, so I want to put everyone’s mind at ease; you’ve heard the old term stranger danger, just be leery of strangers, you don’t want to get into a car with anybody, you don’t want to accept candy, you don’t want to go in somebody’s house, and you always want to let someone know, especially a trusted adult, where you are.”

If you are in immediate danger, dial 911 for help.
