Seaford area pursuit under investigation

SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford Police are continuing to investigate a chase that took place Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Collins Avenue and Purnell Street for a weapons complaint. While en route, officers received a description from dispatch of a subject in possession of a handgun and making threatening statements. When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly saw a subject matching the description getting into the driver’s seat of a gray Honda Accord. Verbal orders were given to the subject to get out of the vehicle, but they refused to comply and reportedly drove off eastbound on Collins Avenue.

Units began to chase the subject, who committed multiple traffic infractions as they drove toward the Delaware and Maryland state line, reportedly traveling over 100 mph at one point. Once the chase entered Maryland, officers ended the pursuit and notified Maryland police agencies.

A Seaford Police unit at the scene of where the chase started found two jackets near where the suspect vehicle had been located. One jacket was found to contain .36 grams of suspected heroin, 3.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and approximately $1,693 in suspected drug money. The second jacket was found to contain a black handgun with an extended magazine.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Seaford Police at 302-629-6645 or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
