Pittsville Pharmacy giving free vaccinations Saturday

Employees And Vaccines

PITTSVILLE, Md. – It’s flu season, which means you may be mentally and physically preparing to catch a cold in the office, or for your kids to bring home a nasty virus from school.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. The Pittsville Pharmacy is hosting a free vaccination event, and pharmacist, Abdul Moeez, encourages everyone to come out and protect themselves against the flu, COVID, shingles, and pneumonia.

“People in these areas, especially in Pittsville, have very limited access to healthcare and they face more challenges trying to get to a doctor’s office or a hospital, where they would be able to get a vaccine,” Moeez said.

Illnesses don’t discriminate but getting a vaccine can be intimidating. Moeez said they’re working to educate the public on what a vaccine is and how it protects you.

“It goes into your body and basically trains your cells to recognize and fight the virus off,” Moeez said. “What it does is it teaches the body to make antibodies against that virus, so in the future when a live virus is contracted, they can be protected already.”

Town clerk, Judy Jones, who helped bring the event to life, is calling on everyone in her community to take advantage of this free resource.

“I think it would be a great thing for them to just come in, meet the local people and just come get their free shot,” Jones said.

The clinic will be held at 34205 Old Ocean City Rd., from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
