Pittsville Library to move to new location

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – The East side of Wicomico County is getting a brand-new public library.

The Pittsville branch is moving to its new home in the heart of Parsonsburg. The plans were unveiled to the public earlier this week and county executive, Julie Giordano, said the new space will greatly benefit the community.

“Once it’s done and the design is all finished, it’s just going to be an awesome place with awesome location with services that the east side is in desperate need of, so we’ve kept a branch open over there, but this is just such an amazing upgrade,” Giordano said.

The $1.7 million satellite branch will be fully equipped with a new computer lab, an external porch for leisure reading and recreational space to expand outdoor programs. Head of programming and outreach, Stephanie Daisey, said now, they’ll be able to extend further outreach to Parsonsburg residents.

“The building is bigger, yes, the resources will expand, yes, but it’s going to be a beautiful community space to just be in. Whether you enjoy the nature trails that we have planned or check out a book and read it on the rocking chair on the front porch, it’s designed to fit into the neighborhood beautifully,” Daisey said.

And by eliminating those barriers, it’ll be easier for people to get their hands on books.

“Communities need a local library of their own– something that’s accessible to their neighborhoods,” Daisey said.
