Officials report high turnout for early voting in Sussex County

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – Early voting for the 2024 general election is underway in Delaware, continuing until November 3rd, the Sunday before the election.

Local election officials said the turnout for early voting so far has been incredible with Sussex county seeing 30-thousand ballots cast in the first three days.

A turnout of 30,000 in just three days is more than the county saw for its entire early voting period in the 2022 midterm.

“We had a 16,000 person voter turnout for the first day, which was a little overwhelming. But we managed to get everybody through and everybody got a chance to vote. And that’s definitely a record throughout the state. So we’re very pleased with that,” said Bo McDowell, Sussex County Department of Elections Director.

McDowell added that the high early voting turnout in Sussex County might lead to them adding more early voting locations in future elections.
