National school bus safety week
DELMARVA- Students nationwide rely on school buses daily to get to and from school safely.
This National School Bus Safety Week law enforcement is reminding us to keep that journey as safe as possible for everyone.
Drivers should remember that when the stop arm is out and the lights are flashing it’s the law to stop.
they should also keep a safe distance, and never try to pass a school bus when it’s picking up or dropping off children.
When you see a school bus slowing down or stopping it’s not just the bus that you need to have your eyes on, but the surrounding area too.
Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli says that Safe habits around school buses should be second nature.
Crisafulli says, “Everyday should be awareness for school bus safety because the safety of our children is always at the top of everyone’s list so that’s something that our viewers need to recognize that the safety of our children should always come first.”
Bus safety isn’t just about being on the bus parents should educate their children about safe behavior at the bus stop.
Crisafulli also says “We’re reminding our residents to you know keep the children especially if they have younger children with them when their waiting for a sibling to get off of the bus or waiting for a child to get off the bus you know have those children stay away the travel portion of the road.”
