Millsboro Police Department hosting its annual 3v3 basketball tournament

MILLSBORO, Del.,- Millsboro Police Department is hosting its first annual 3 vs 3 basketball tournament Saturday, October 19th.

The police department is partnering with Mountaire Farms to host the friendly competition.

This free public event will have food, music, and entertainment for all ages.

Corporal John Wharton tells us that this event is about more than just basketball.

Wharton says, “Yes, it’s also a basketball tournament, but we’re also having a bunch of vendors and sponsors be there to provide free services. We’re gonna have Beebe Medical out there with their truck doing welfare checks on people, and we’re gonna have Atracare there to provide health services.”

He also says “We’re also going to have starting line up barbershop which is here in Millsboro on main street their gonna be coming out and giving out free haircuts to anybody who wants a haircut.”

Corporal Wharton says that connecting with the community is the main goal.

Wharton says “The Millsboro police department we’re looking to engage in our community a lot more in a positive manner police and law enforcement nowadays have a negative look with the media or with the public and we’re just trying to build a rapport with the community we serve.”

Thursday, October 17th is the last day to register for the tournament.
