Maryland Senate Canidate Angela Alsobrooks visits UMES

Senators and Students

MARYLAND – Maryland’s Democratic Senatorial candidate Angela Alsobrooks on the Eastern Shore made an appearance at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on October 2nd. She came to encourage students to vote and shared her views on the current political climate.

“This election is about the future…” says Angela Alsobrooks, who is running for one of Maryland’s senate seats, says top issues like gun laws and abortion rights will play a major part in this election, but she says the economy affects everyone. “It’s a growing future, where we see middle class and hard-working families all across our state be able to have the ability to afford not only the cost of living but to see each successive generation doing better than the one before it.”

Alsobrooks, who is the current Prince George’s County Executive said she came to UMES because it’s not her future she’s fighting for, it’s the younger generation. “I want to hear what they’re thinking and feeling and what they’re concerned about because ultimately, it’s hard to represent people you don’t know or understand. and the only way truly understand the people you represent is to show up where they are.”

She says out of over 2,000 senators that have been elected to our country, only 2 have been Black women, and this election could be historic. “What representation means to me, is that every single person should be able to look in the senate and see themselves. I think every race, every gender, every background should be represented because I think it make our policies more complete.”

Her message: “Whoever has the power decides where the resources go”. Angela Alsobrooks is running as a Democrat to represent Maryland in the United States Senate.  Her opponent is Republican Larry Hogan, former governor of Maryland.
