Man arrested for murder of stepfather in Queen Anne’s Co.
MILLINGTON, Md. – Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in connection to a homicide over the weekend.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a residence on Pfalzgroff Road for a reported medical emergency. Police arrived at the scene to find that the victim, identified as 67-year-old David Teat, had been involved in a serious altercation that led to his death.
Further investigation and interviews with witnesses and family members led detectives to identify the suspect as 48-year-old Brian Sykes, the victim’s stepson. It was learned that Sykes had fled and was no longer in the area, and the victim’s vehicle was also missing. A stolen vehicle alert and person of interest alert were subsequently issued, and law enforcement agencies in surrounding states were notified.
Late Sunday night, Sykes was apprehended during a traffic stop in North Philadelphia when a felony alert came back on the vehicle’s tags. Police say Sykes tried to flee and hit multiple vehicles in the process before being arrested.
Sykes was held on multiple charges related to the incident in Philadelphia. An arrest warrant was obtained for Sykes in Queen Anne’s County, and he will be extradited on first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, armed robbery, robbery, and theft charges.
