Love INC of Mid-Delmarva in need of volunteers

DELMARVA – Love INC of Mid-Delmarva is set to host their annual pickleball tournament on October 11th and 12th.

The inaugural ‘Love In the Kitchen Pickleball Tournament kicks off Friday, October 11th at Abbots Grill in Laurel, with a meet and greet for community members to learn more about Love INC. The pickleball tournament will take place at the Courts at Harmon Field in Salisbury on Saturday, October 12th.

We’re told it’s a fundraising event to support Love INC’s vital services for those facing poverty and homelessness in Mid-Delmarva – by providing economic, social, and spiritual support.

It’s a weekend full of competition, enlightenment, and an opportunity to learn how to get involved with your community. “It’s going to support a good cause. A lot of people are aware of Code Purple or Love INC but not both, but Love INC of Mid-Delmarva oversees Code Purple for Sussex County and that’s something that not a lot of people know,” explains Gio Otero, with Love INC of Mid-Delmarva. He adds, “That’s the beauty of Love INC, a lot of churches and businesses want to help but don’t know how, and a lot of people need help and don’t know where to go and that’s where Love INC is that piece in the middle.”

Now with seven Code Purple locations throughout Sussex County – including Seaford, Milford, Georgetown, and the Lewes-Rehoboth area, they’re meeting as many needs as possible – but need continued support to do so.

As colder months are just ahead, those shelters need volunteers as un-housed individuals look for a warm place to rest their heads at night. “My dream is to have 30 people at each location so during that three and a half month span that means you just give up one night a month.” Otero adds, “We found a lot of times that the person that’s giving up the comfort of their own home is also changed, they get to know these people, they get to know their neighbor and just see that they’re regular people like you and me. They get to know their story and why they’ve fallen on hard times.”
