Hit and run investigation leads to DUI charges for Cambridge man

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge Police arrested a man over the weekend on DUI charges following a hit-and-run crash.

At around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 100 block of Somerset Avenue for a reported hit-and-run. Witnesses told police that they followed the suspect vehicle from Easton after seeing it driving recklessly and that the vehicle hit a box truck and left the scene.

Officers located the driver, identified as 36-year-old Ahmed Elsayed, and observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and person. Elsayed also allegedly provided false information to police about the accident regarding what was hit and a child who was in the vehicle. He reportedly told officers that he had taken prescribed medication, which states not to drive or consume alcoholic beverages.

Elsayed refused Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with multiple DUI and traffic offenses, and was later released on traffic citations. The juvenile passenger was evaluated by EMS for injuries.
