Groundbreaking ceremony in Wicomico County for Commerce Park

SALISBURY, Md. – Wicomico County announced the groundbreaking of St. John Properties’ first business community in the county at Westwood Commerce Park on October 15th.

St. John Properties is set to transform Westwood Commerce Park into a hub for diverse businesses.

Wicomico County says they’re breaking ground to boost businesses and improve the local economy. County Executive Julie Giordano says she’s been an advocate of the park from the start and that this will serve as a major catalyst for growth.

“Seeing it from start to finish from the first tour that we took and now we’re here at this groundbreaking it’s just so exciting… One of the biggest things is, we don’t have any flex space. So, this is going to be a new opportunity for businesses… You could have a potential restaurant here, you could have a daycare, you could have an office space, a retail store. That’s why it’s so amazing with flex space because it literally can be used for any commercial entity.”

St. John Properties is a national leader in commercial real estate development. Regional Partner Andrew Roud says the project is expected to create a ripple effect of economic benefits throughout the community.

“A lot of the tenants that we have around the United States follow us around, so what we’re also hoping is that tenants that have been ours for years, will now know they have a home here in Salisbury, and they can expand themselves down here.”

Roud works with the Greater Salisbury Committee and says they’ve been very welcoming. He says this will bring new business opportunities to the region.

“In many instances, it looks like a traditional one-story office building in the front, all brick all glass. When you go around the rear, there’s roll up doors that can accommodate trucks… But you can also change it where it’ll be just a single-story office like a Statefarm agent, or a medical doctor’s office. So, that’s the whole idea of being flexible.”

They both agree that the Westwood Commerce Park further solidifies Wicomico County’s position as a prime location for growth and development. County Executive Giordano says, “We wanted fresh new developers here. We love who we have, but we always want to try to expand and we’re a growing community.”

Roud says he glad to be included in Wicomico’s growth. “Salisbury is clearly sort of the crossroads of the peninsula, and what I’ve learned is, 200,000 people come into this city to work, that’s the daily population, they go back at night. What we’re hoping is we provide a place for new businesses to start up.”

St. John Properties say construction will start as early as December, and officials say they are currently looking for tenants. The first 2 buildings should be completed in the Fall of 2025, and to negotiate a lease, contact St. John Properties at 410- 788-0100 or visit their website.
