Family and friends celebrate the life of Kylee Robinson in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – For the 1st anniversary of the tragic death of 18-year-old Kylee Robinson, family and friends came together to celebrate his life with a walk to raise awareness against gun violence.

His mother, Danielle Stevens said, she will remember her son for his personality.

“He was the life of the party like his mom, hearing his friend talk about him, you know Kylee had a good heart and liked to party. He liked to have fun just like all the other kids, but my favorite thing about him was that he was always genuine.”

On the afternoon of October 29th, 2023, Robinson was shot and killed on his porch in Laurel. Stevens said she feels the walk was a success. “The purpose of this walk is to bring awareness to the situation and keep his name alive, but the only way we can do that is to stand together as a community.”

The walk started on West 7th Street and ended at Roger C. Fisher Park. In attendance were Laurel’s mayor, John Shwed, councilmembers, and area pastors.
Stevens is still processing the loss of her son.

“We got to wake up every day and know we can’t bring him back, we got to go listen in a car, listen to music, and bring us back to a time when we were together, knowing we’ll never get that back.”

With gun and gang violence still impacting Laurel, Stevens believes the community needs to come together to combat the issue. “Nowadays anybody from any town, can come from this town and just walk around and anything can happen and that’s a part of the problem.”
