DOVER, Del. – A Dover man is behind bars on charges stemming from a shooting Thursday evening.

Just after 8:30 p.m., troopers were called to a residence on David Hall Road for a reported shooting, arriving at the scene to find a 45-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Cody Toomey, were working on a vehicle in the driveway when Toomey reportedly placed an unsecured gun on the front steps of the house. A 3-year-old family member allegedly found the gun and fired a shot, which hit the victim.

Toomey was charged with two counts of first degree reckless endangering and was held at SCI on a $6,000 secured bond.
