Capital School District releases statement following shooting incident at Dover High School

Shooting Investigation

DOVER, Del. – The Capital School District has released a statement regarding a shooting following the Dover High School football game Friday evening.

District officials say school staff acted promptly to ensure the safety of students, quickly ushering students on the football field into the school, where they remained until the situation was under control.

Additional counselors and support staff will be at the school on Monday to help any students or staff who may have been affected by the incident. In addition, new safety procedures were implemented earlier this season for football games, including the use of a weapons detection system at the stadium entrance, as well as a ban on bags and strollers.

“The safety and security of our students, staff, and community members remain our top priority,” said Dr. Victoir T. Cahoon, Interim Superintendent of the Capital School District. “We are fully committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy our events in a secure environment. We are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation by the Dover Police Department and will continue to do everything we can to maintain a safe atmosphere at all of our schools and events.”
