Cambridge murder leaves community members voicing their concerns
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Community members are voicing their concerns after a man was killed in a shooting Sunday night in Cambridge.
Police say the shooting claimed the life of 26-year-old Virgil Simms IV, in the 600 block of Pine Street.
“He came in my store every morning, he was a quiet kid, I didn’t know him like that, I just knew him for being my customer, but he was in here every day, and I never really saw him bother anybody, so it was a tragedy it happened. ” Said Isaac Adams. The owner of Groove Mini Market on Pine Street.
According to police, the man was killed across the street from the Groove Market. Officers attempted medical aid, but unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adams thinks the city of Cambridge has been safer this year, and statistics prove that as well. This is the first gun-related homicide of the year. “It’s been pretty quiet this year, I mean this summer compared to the past couple of years. It has been surprising what happened last night, considering the kids have been getting jobs now, and they have been staying out the streets.”
Maryland State Police are leading the investigation, and Cambridge detectives are also working on the case. Chief of Police, Justin Todd, is striving to continue the effort to cut down on gun violence, especially on Pine Street.
“There’s a lot of good store owners, business owners, and residents that are living on that street, and it’s our job to protect them as much as we can, and one way is to get cold-blooded killers off the street”
This is an ongoing investigation; Maryland State Police urge anyone with information to contact them at 443-783-7230.
