Burn Ban in effect for State of Delaware

DELAWARE – Delaware State Fire Marshals have issued a Burn Ban statewide due to drought conditions.

Effective immediately, the following is prohibited:

  • Bonfires
  • Controlled burns, including burning of leaves and yard waste
  • Agricultural burning
  • Fires for land clearing
  • Fires for demolition and removal of hazards
  • Outdoor rubbish fires

Grills/hibachis in areas cleared of surrounding combustibles used for cooking only are allowed. Additionally, campfires surrounded by a non-combustible ring no larger than 3′ x 3′ used for cooking only.

Officials say carelessness with matches, discarded cigarettes, and vehicle exhausts are the most common causes of the ignition of dry grass, mulch, and other landscape materials.
