Body of missing Salisbury man recovered in Wicomico River

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury Police are investigating after a man was reportedly found dead in the Wicomico River on Wednesday.

At around 3:30 p.m., detectives with SPD and Maryland State Police troopers responded to the north prong of the Wicomico River, near the 200 block of Mill Street, for a report of a body found in the water. The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Joseph Alexis, who was reported missing to Salisbury Police on Monday.

Alexis’ body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. We’re told foul play is not suspected at this time.

The investigation remains active. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation to find Alexis after he was reported missing, working with Maryland State Police and searching areas he was known to frequent.
