Wicomico Humane Society holds 1st annual ‘Fur & Field Day’
SALISBURY, Md. – Saturday was the Wicomico Humane Society’s first ever ‘Fur & Field Day,’ with games, food, music, and of course, animals.
“I’m shocked. I think the turnout is great, everybody seems like they’re having fun,” said Humane Society Executive Director Kim Nock, “This is kind of just a fun thing, that we want to do with the community, to get everybody excited, to bring them out, and we kind of wanted to showcase our own dogs at this event which sometimes we don’t have that opportunity to do.”
Amy Ford with Heavenly Gates Pet Cremation said that as soon as she heard about the field day she knew she had to be a part of it, and it’s turned out even better than she could have hoped for: “There’s a lot of people here. There’s a much bigger turnout than I thought which is great And, and I think everyone’s having a lot of fun….I just like talking to people and seeing all the animals. But the games have been a lot of fun as well.”
Nock said all the funds raised from this event will go straight to the animals in their care: “We have a lot of dogs and a lot of kitties. And of course, that goes to their daily care. So we have a lot of special needs situations, a lot of medical needs.
Even with the success of their first annual fur and field day Nock said it’s not about the money, it’s about the animals and their community.
“We really didn’t know what to expect. But again, we weren’t really using this as a huge fundraiser. We just wanted to be able to have our own animals out here and get them seen so we can get some of them out of here…and our community is so supportive to us all the time. So we just wanted to do something to be able to interact with them.”
