The Footsteps to Freedom event will honor the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act

CHURCH CREEK, Md – It’s the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The National Park Service will host a two-day event called the Footsteps to Freedom to commemorate the anniversary.

It’ll take place on Friday and Saturday at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park; the goal is to educate and inspire people on the heroic figures that have played a part in the fight for freedom and equality.

Workshops, panels, and demonstrations will be a part of the activities, NPS Park Ranger, Lawson Nwakudo, said it’s important to people to understand how far this country has come.

The history of the underground railroad, and how that fed into civil rights which would be the next frontier not just for African Americans but for all people of color in the United States.
