Snow Hill Police warning of recent fraud attempts

SNOW HILL, Md. – Snow Hill Police are warning residents of recent fraud reports.

We’re told two residents have recently contacted police, reporting that they were solicited by individuals to pay them via Bitcoin or Gift Cards to avoid arrest and/or the release of “illicit” photos that the caller claimed they were in possession of. In both cases, police say the individuals were contacted by cell phone and received text messages and/or emails with instructions on how to avoid arrest.

Police advise residents that these types of incidents are a growing trend nationwide. If you receive a text or email from an unfamiliar phone or email address, you should delete the message and not open it.

If you feel you may be the victim of one of these incidents, you should contact your local police department.
