Skimming devices found at several Sussex Co. Wawa locations
SUSSEX CO., Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating after multiple skimming devices were reportedly found at several Wawa locations in Sussex County.
We’re told the devices have been found on the self-checkout kiosks at the following locations:
- 24930 John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro
- 30155 Veterans Way, Rehoboth Beach
- 35436 Wolfe Neck Road, Rehoboth
- 17663 Dartmouth Drive, Lewes
Police are recommending that anyone who completed transactions at any of these locations between August 31st and September 14th to review their banking or credit card accounts for any fraudulent transactions.
Additionally, police recommend the following tips to avoid becoming the victim of a skimming device:
- Check for a camera that could be used to record PINs being entered, avoid using the debit payment option where PINs are required
- Tap-to-pay is the most secure method of payment, followed by the EMV chip payment method
- Check for signs of tampering
- Pull on the card slot and wiggle the keypad, as skimming devices are typically placed directly over the slot
If you find a possible skimming device, you should report it to business management immediately.
