Sea Gull Century returns this weekend, traffic advisories issued
SALISBURY, Md. – A traffic advisory has been issued for this Saturday, September 28th, as the 36th annual Sea Gull Century rides back into town.
Heavy bicycle traffic is expected near the Salisbury University campus from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., especially on Route 13, Milford Street, and South Division Street. Cyclists will begin in multiple heats from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Southbound traffic on South Division Street between College Avenue and Milford Street will be open to event traffic only during that time. Northbound traffic on South Division Street will only be open to Century traffic and those living in the restricted area.
Bateman Street will be closed to all vehicles throughout the day, with police at its intersection with Route 13 from 6 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. SU’s underpass will be used by cyclists going eastbound in the morning and westbound in the afternoon.
Motorists should expect traffic restrictions prohibiting southbound traffic from East College Avenue onto South Division Street throughout the afternoon. Motorists may also want to avoid Milford and Wayne Streets.
Riders are scheduled to travel two routes through Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties. They will pass directly through Princess Anne and Berlin, with rest stops at Washington High School, Mt. Olive United Methodist Church (Snow Hill), Assateague State Park, and Adkins Mill Park.
Police will also control the intersection of Route 12/Snow Hill Road at Route 354/Nassawango Road, Powellville Road near Adkins Mill Park, and the intersections of Route 113 at Germantown Road and Route 376. Bicycle traffic should also be expected on Mount Hermon Road during the afternoon hours.
