Salisbury Urban Ministries is calling on the public to help the less fortunate
Donations
MARYLAND – Salisbury Urban Ministries is asking for the public’s help in feeding the hungry. The local 501c3 non-profit gets its funding through donations and grants, and it typically receives fruits, veggies, grains, and protein.
Executive Director Debbie Donaway says they need potatoes, hamburger helpers, and canned goods. They usually give people about $35 in food, and at times offer toiletry items. She says they’ve seen an increase in that need lately, and the community’s support could make a difference.
“We’ve seen 29 new families just within the past month. And I think the big difference is that food prices as we all know have increased. The population has changed throughout our area… By giving us the monetary donations it gives us more spending power going through the Maryland Food Bank.”
The Lazarus Pantry is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and residents need to bring an ID and proof of government assistance to receive a food bag, so they can ensure they are helping those who need it the most.
