Rep. Bryan Shupe presumptive winner in District 36
DELAWARE – Representative Bryan Shupe has served as the district’s state representative since 2018, and Tuesday night he won his republican primary race by 0.52%.
The thin margin of 12 votes was just enough to avoid a recount by Delaware law.
Shupe’s opponent Patrick Smith tells WMDT he plans to petition the state for a recount.
Barring a potential recount changing the outcome, Shupe said he is now setting his sights on November’s general election, adding that his record speaks for itself: “Our plan for winning the general election is just staying with our message of building up our community. What we have done not only through our six years in the legislative office, but also what we’ve done in the community with mentoring youth, with building early childhood literacy through nonprofits, through our two small businesses. Just building that vision and and helping as many people as possible achieve independence in their lives.”
Shupe will face off with Republican Rony Baltazar-Lopez in November.
Primary election results are unofficial at this time and will be finalized on Friday.
