Queen Anne’s Sheriff addresses recent threats on social media

QUEEN ANNE’S CO. Md. – The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office is addressing recent social media threats.

We’re told the posts have been circulating within the Queen Anne’s County Public School District and threaten potential gun violence at schools. Police say the post is the same viral threat that has been charged at school districts across the nation in recent days.

Further investigation has determined that the listed schools in the post were from Marshall County, West Virginia, and that there is not substantiated threat to students. As a precautionary measure, all suspicious social media postings have been reported to the Maryland Center for School Safety.

Sheriff Gary Hofmann is urging parents, staff, students, and community members to verify information through official channels before sharing it online.

“The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff and I are fully committed to keeping our community informed of any legitimate events that may impact our schools. It’s equally important to address and dispel unfounded rumors that can create unnecessary fear and anxiety,” said Hofmann. “The spread of false information can create chaos and a sense of insecurity for our students, families, and school staff. Let’s work together to ensure our schools remain safe and supportive environments.”
