POCOMOKE, Md. – The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house fire that broke out early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported just before 12:30 a.m. and involved a 2-story home in the area of Maple Street and 2nd Street. The blaze was upgraded to two alarms, and neighboring homes were evacuated. Firefighters were able to prevent the neighboring home from catching on fire, but numerous exposures sustained damage from the extreme heat of the fire.

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire and had been undergoing renovations.

The cause remains under investigation.
