Overnight crash claims life of Dover woman

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Dover woman early Friday morning.

Just after midnight, police say a Mazda CX5 was traveling westbound on Hazlettville Road, approaching Artis Drive, at an apparent high rate of speed. Preliminary investigation determined that the Mazda failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the road, hitting a mailbox and a utility pole guide wire. The car then reportedly flipped, hit a tree, and an unoccupied vehicle at a residence in the 3900 block of Hazletville Road.

The driver, a 28-year-old Dover woman, was reportedly not restrained and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
