Ocean City beach patrol to go off duty, Sunday

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Summer is coming to an end, which means the Ocean City beach patrol will be taking its seasonal break.
From September 22nd to Memorial Day, 2025, the beach patrol will be off duty, and officials say you should stay out of the water during that 8 month stretch.
Captain of the Ocean City beach patrol, Butch Arbin, said especially during hurricane season, being mindful of the lack of patrol presence can save your life, and there are other alternatives to being in the water.
“Over 98% of all the drowning deaths that have occurred in the last 100 years have been when we’re not on duty, so after this Sunday, September 22nd, we really hope that people will choose to do many of the other things Ocean City has to offer,” Arbin said.
The patrol will be going off duty at 5:30pm.
