Maryland NAACP Youth advocated on Capitol Hill

NAACP National Advocacy Day

MARYLAND – National Day of Advocacy is celebrated annually in Washington, D.C. at Capitol Hill, and local NAACP members went there to join the call for action.

Many gathered to advocate for the issues they feel are crippling this country, any NAACP chapters from all across America are standing hand in hand. Dorien Rogers State President of Maryland Youth and Conference NAACP says, they plan to address education, the environment, and infrastructure, and though they are non-partisan, they are pro-democracy. Their goal was to speak to democrats and republicans alike, such as Congressman Andy Harris, to shed light.

President Rogers said this is something they must do. “When we elect our representatives, they have a commitment to ensuring that the people’s needs are met in keeping this democracy going. And so, we’re here to make sure that we’re uplifting the policies that are reflective of our communities on the Eastern Shore of Maryland…. Often times we’re told ‘Things are too complex on Capitol Hill, things are too difficult to navigate.’ That’s why we can’t act as congress, but remember it’s governed by the people and for the people. ”

The NAACP will continue with their effort through the remainder of the elections and if you have any voting questions or want to support your local chapter, please visit their website.
