Maryland Department of Health to fight back against suicide within the school system
MARYLAND – The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) implementing the Maryland Action Plan to prevent suicides within the school system.
MDH announced a new comprehensive guide for schools, which includes extensive training for school admins, mental health professionals, and even parents.
Director of suicide prevention and problem gambling, Dionne Bowie, said this new plan will take Maryland schools to the next level in offering support to students.
“Here in the state of Maryland, we wanted to make sure we had the essential tools in place to be more proactive so we can help make an informed environment so they can help the students the teachers, and the parents.”
Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people ages 10-24 in Maryland.
