Good Morning Delmarva discusses the Community Arts Showcase of Excellence

WMDT – Art lovers, are you looking for an opportunity to celebrate local artists and witness some amazing pieces?

We’ll you’re in luck!

Wor-Wic Community College is hosting a Community Arts Showcase of Excellence featuring well-known local artists.

They want to play a bigger role in highlighting and accentuating the arts on the lower shore.

The event is a part of the inaugural week for new president of the College, Deborah Casey.

We’re told the arts is really important to her and she wants to grow the appreciation for art on campus.

Tiffany Kotra-Loos, the chair for the showcase, says they worked to curate a variety of art and acts for people to experience.

They want to encourage people to see something they wouldn’t typically see.

Some of the artists featured will be the Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre, the Heart & Sole step team, world-champion decoy maker Rich Smoker, four-time Caldecott Honor recipient Bryan Collier, and many more.

Officials at Wor-Wic say this was made possible by the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council who is funding the showcase.

Food will also be provided at the event – which is on September 19th.

Wor-Wic wants to be able to do this again in the future. We’re told they think it’s a great opportunity for young artists to be exposed to artists that are successful.

It could lead to potential inspiration or mentorship.

The art councils next deadline is December 6th.
