Frederick Douglass Day brings community members together to honor his life

EASTON, Md. – Frederick Douglass Day took off in downtown Easton as the Frederick Douglass Honor Society put together a special event to honor the life of the Talbot County native.

Douglass is known for his life goal of abolishing the institutions of slavery in the African American Community.  Guest speakers, food, marketplaces, and a children’s village were all at the parade site on Saturday.

Musical performer, Isaiah Robinson said, it’s important to give community members proper knowledge of history. “Frederick Douglass wanted us to get education and knowledge, he believed that being a free and educated black man means you will not be a slave.”

Deleon Foster also performed at the event, she hopes, this inspires people to give back to the community.

“To make sure we all know we are loved and wanted and that mental health matters, so coming together today just shows how much we want to give back to the community because we all need everyone so I just think everyone should do what they can to change the world in any way.”
