Emerging Leader: Dr. Stanley Robertson
WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader.
Dr. Stanley Robertson is an esteemed veterinary doctor that was recently hired as the first permanent dean of the school of veterinary medicine at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
A huge feat for the local university so we sat down with Robertson to learn more about what the role entails.
Dr. Robertson previously opened his own practice, has authored 36 different publications, received numerous honorary awards, and spent a number of years serving as the associate dean of clinical relations at the University of Arizona.
He says this unique position with UMES is exciting, but he says he knows it’s a big task and he’s up for the challenge.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Veterinary Program will be the first of its kind in the state of Maryland and the first for a public HBCU.
UMES currently has eight health professions, the most amongst historical black colleges and universities in the country!
The program is set to only take three years to complete compared to the typical four year and will give students an opportunity to earn money earlier.
There will be both summer courses and clinical training at various local hospitals and practices.
Some of Dr. Robertson’s goals are to bring on more faculty and administrators to help put together the curriculum for the school.
The School of Veterinary Medicine is anticipating its first round of students in Fall of 2026 – depending on the accreditation process.
