DELAWARE – Sarah McBride has won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Delaware’s 1st Congressional District, per the Associated Press.

McBride beat out Earl Cooper and Elias Weir for the nomination.

In a Facebook post Tuesday evening, McBride said, “With a heart full of hope – and because of tens of thousands of Delawareans who turned out to the polls – tonight I’m proud to become the Democratic nominee for Delaware’s sole seat in the United States House of Representatives. Thank you, Delaware!”

McBride won the primary for Delaware’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, in a bid to become the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. She will go up against either Donyale Hall or James Whalen III in the November General Election.
