BAAM is calling for artist in the community

Bike Rack Contest

Maryland – Calling all artists! A bike rack design contest is happening now through November.

Building African American Minds or BAAM is asking the public to submit proposals for an artistic Bike Rack design and public benches that will be displayed at the BAAM Athletic Center on Jowite Street in Easton. Simultaneously, they are also allowing children from 1st to 5th grade to submit designs for benches that will also go outside the center.

Damika Baker-Wilson is the contest’s Project manager and says right now the athletic center doesn’t have any seating or enough bike rack space for the population that it serves. She says this is a great way to get the community involved. “This is for artist, this is for community members, anyone who has like an artistic bone in their body… It’s a complete and total community project from top to bottom. And we’re not commissioning a piece from an experienced artist outside of the community, we’re pushing for members of the community to participate and submitting designs…”

The contest concludes on November 1, 2024, and winners will be selected during Black History Month in February 2025. They encourage anyone and everyone to submit, and if you have any questions, please feel free to visit their website.
