YMCA programs encourage elderly to build strength, form community

MARYLAND. – Team members at the Easton YMCA learned valuable health skills.

Ten employees were certified by the YUSA to coach the EnhanceFitness and LiveSTRONG programs, which include sports like Rock Steady Boxing, for those living with Parkinson’s Disease.

Director of chronic disease programs, Wendy Palmer, said getting seniors involved and out of the house can help them form communities and build their strength.

“They need the strength, they need the stability and the balance, but more than anything, they need the community,” Palmer said. “A lot of our seniors are isolated or were isolating during COVID.”
