Wicomico County Health Department Goes Purple for Overdose Awareness

MARYLAND – The Wicomico County Health Department is going purple in solidarity with Substance Abuse Awareness. Their Tri-County “Go Purple” Kick-Off event starts this weekend.  This is the 6th annual Kick-off, and the “Go Purple” initiative is meant to educate and encourage the community to have conversations with one another, specifically the Youth as it pertains to drug use.

Michelle Hardy is the Director of the Behavioral Health Authority for the Wicomico County Health Department. There will be plenty of resources available for those seeking help, and she says this event is at a perfect time. “Well, this is a Tri-County effort between Worcester, Wicomico, and Somerset Counties It’s important because September actually is recovery month. So, it’s an awesome way to celebrate those in recovery, bringing awareness to substance misuse, and just a time for us to get together.”

The event will take place Saturday August 31st at the Shorebird Stadium with pregame activities starting ta 6: 30. Everyone is welcomed, and organizers say this is just the first step of Wicomico going Purple.
