White Marlin Open prevailing even in unpredictable weather.
OCEAN CITY, Md – The 51st annual White Marlin Open has been facing some challenges, with unsettled weather patterns.
I spoke to Double Neck Fishing’s Jack Ogburn, and he said, that facing rough weather conditions has made his job that much harder. “It’s a completely different ballgame, it’s a stressful one, because it is dangerous, when we were out there, we had an 8-foot wave crash in the cockpit, if that wave hits a person, you know you’re going overboard.” Said Ogburn.
The White Marlin Open has been smooth sailing, even with the extra challenges to face, Reel Inn employee Wil Barrett said, the bad weather has impacted business. ‘Yeah, it’s been pretty troublesome, and you know this is a huge week for us, so we bring in a lot of profit this week, but with the bad weather conditions, a lot of boats either dropped out or have not gone fishing as many days.”
WMO Valet employee, Tonya Nelson said the event has prevailed through the tough times regardless. “They have handled it well, every day they predicted for the last two days, a lot of rains and all this turmoil in the weather, God is good, it’s been great, they’ve been dealing with it in here, the ships have gone out every day and come back with something to weigh.”
Murky waters have been difficult to adjust to, but eventgoers have been pleased with the results, Mckenny Box was glad the event didn’t get rained out.
“Yeah, I feel like today, I feel like today would’ve been a blowout, but it’s still been good.”
Only 17 boats got on the water today, with the recent developments, The White Marlin Open has extended its days to Saturday, August 10th for participants who couldn’t get off the dock due to the weather.
