Weather Tidbits: Tropical Climatology in the Atlantic
This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing tropical climatology in the Atlantic Ocean. Using data collected between 1851 and 2018, tropical cyclone development has been observed from the beginning of May to the end of November. Despite tropical development observed in May, the official Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1st to November 30th. Hurricanes at category 3 strength or larger have been observed from the beginning of July through the middle of November. The most amount of tropical development overall occurred between August and October, especially in September. This is considered the peak of Hurricane season. History shows that September will usually feature the highest number of named storms during the hurricane season.
