Salisbury Zoo holding ‘Sensory-Friendly Family Night’

SALISBURY, Md. – Wednesday evening the Salisbury Zoo will be holding a Sensory-Friendly Family Night.

Previously, the zoo had worked with Salisbury University’s Psychology Department to host these sensory friendly nights, but Zoo officials say this is the first time they’ll be putting one on by themselves.

The event is geared toward children with autism or other sensitivities, but it’s open to everyone.

At 4:30pm the zoo will close to the general public, then reopen at 5pm for those who might need specific accommodations to fully enjoy their time with the animals.

“It’s a little bit quieter, it’s a little bit less busy, it’s a little bit less crazy so that people have the opportunity to walk the zoo and enjoy it, who might need a little bit of extra space or time or noise level or whatever that might be,” said Kelly Colbert.

The event is free, but registration is required.

The Zoo will also be holding a sensory-friendly night on October 25th for kids looking to trick-or-treat.
